ABOUT

ISYA (I Send You Away) is the long running project of multi-instrumentalist Jake Brown, a veteran of punk and post hardcore bands in the Florida and Washington DC areas since 1997. It began in 2006 as an anonymous experiment circulating through MySpace and old Blogspot pages. Early recordings were self released on CD and cassette in small numbers and found their way to listeners through word of mouth and curious corners of the internet. For a brief moment it appeared to be a real band when a staged lineup showed up in the video for X-AM Is In Love, a college project where Brown had friends pose as members. The clip caught the attention of a few labels and even landed the project as an editor’s pick in Alternative Press. In reality the project was still mostly an idea. Brown wasn’t sure how something this chaotic and electronic could even work live.

The project eventually went quiet while Brown focused on other musical paths. Right before the pandemic he returned to ISYA with a new goal: figure out how to perform something this strange by himself. The result is a volatile mix of industrial electronics, art punk energy and digital hardcore intensity that has become a regular presence in Florida’s underground, sharing stages with artists like Godflesh, Planning for Burial, Bestial Mouths, Bubblegum Octopus, Unwed Sailor, Andy LaPlegua of Combichrist, Glass Chapel and Severed & Said while moving through record stores, art spaces and small clubs across the state.
